I can't do anything right. You might remember a few weeks ago I got a mini-lecture from Stan and Terry on why I should have homeowners insurance. This lecture wasn't new for me because my parents have been saying the same thing for a while now. Well, it finally makes sense. I was in Los Angeles last week; I just missed their 2-week deadly heat wave just as it struck the Midwest. I felt lucky that I avoided the dry heat of the desert and the humidity of a Chicago summer, but then I got a note from my roommate. Apparently we had some wicked storms here, which resulted in my TV dying and my roommate’s computer completely frying. So I got an email from my roommate asking if I had homeowners insurance; nope, sorry. She now needs to buy a new computer, lost everything on her hard drive and I needed a new TV. Would homeowners insurance cover this if I had it? Did I feel guilty that I accidentally left my computer on my bedroom floor and forgot to plug it in?
The drama doesn't end there. I'm very impulsive and sometimes impatient. I wanted a new TV, and I wanted it soon (actually in time to watch "Entourage" on HBO on Sunday night) I decided to check out craigslist.com. I found an ad for a 32 inch relatively new TV. Within 25 minutes I was a guy’s house, I brought my roommate along for security, and visited the ATM to buy the TV. Two hundred dollars later I had a 1 1/2 year old big TV in my apartment. I was relieved, disaster avoided... until I mentioned to my parents and friends that it wasn't High Definition. I didn't care. I just wanted a nice big TV. I got 2 text messages, and 2 phone messages from my dad telling to me cancel the check (sorry Dad, I paid cash) and that I should return it ASAP as it would be useless in 2 years. I can't do anything right.
